Forward Newsletter | Issue 09: Post Italy, Pre Halloween

Rigby Home

Hey There Bestie,

How have you been? October flew by, huh. Mercury Retrograde right into Libra and Scorpio season– what a jump that was ???? Not to mention it’s also the season of Spirit Halloween and black/orange everything. We even saw a black cat on Sunday which seems like a glitch in the matrix if we’re being completely honest!

Anyway, it’s nice and cold out now (sorry to summer lovers, but not sorry). Along with cuffing season, we’re also bringing you a NEW brand, some tasty Italian inspo, and spilling the tea on how wasteful halloween costumes really are– but you already knew that ????

Hopefully this will be a better companion than the Pumpkin Spice overload you’ve probably already subjected yourself to ✨. See you here, every Wednesday.

Diving Deep: I’m Sorry, We’re Spending HOW Much on Costumes Per Year?

Welcome to the nightmare that is Halloween costume consumption. We’re buying more Halloween costumes than ever and that’s a problem. A trend is going around on tiktoks of friend groups and individual influencers doing a “costume countdown” where they wear one costume per day for all 31 days of October.

10 Billion Dollars. What? Yup, you heard that right. This year, Americans are estimated to spend close to ten billion dollars on costumes, candy, decorations and dog costumes too. $3.32 billion of that will be going to costumes alone– 27% more than last year. The breakdown? The average person will spend about $102.74 on Halloween things.

Why is it wasteful? For one, costumes tend to be very culturally relevant and therefore very rarely get worn twice (are we really going to ever see another Knives Out Ransom white-knit sweater costume?– even though Chris Evans KILLED that look). For two (secondly?) Halloween costumes are almost always made from polyester and synthetic latex (petroleum) which have a high likelihood of shedding microfibers.

So really think if you NEED to dress like a Squid Game player, Black Widow, or even the Berries & Cream Little Lad.

See ya next week, same time same place.
